In our seventh
series of showing the lifetime work of arguably Ibiza’s greatest living painter,
Antoni Pomar, this week we illustrate ten more of his wonderful paintings from
between the year’s 1985 to 1990.
Throughout
this sequence of paintings by Antoni Pomar, we are constantly reminded that
while advances in technology offer us endless opportunities to capture and communicate
images, we still celebrate a painter of his excellent quality who helps us observe,
often in arresting close-up, the people and scenes around us. Even for digital,
often cynical twenty-first century consumers, the humanity of his paintings
leaves a striking impression.
Pomar’s output
continues with undiminished, even heightened, vigour and future exhibitions
will no doubt reveal progressively more of the artist and his place in the art
history of Ibiza.
To keep all
these great pictures together they will be added each week to the first article,
Artists on Ibiza (Fifteen), which was initially written by José P Ribas and
published in Weekly Edition 063, Saturday 11th May 2002.
